Saw a truck today offering $1.05 a miles for owner operators. I'm still laughing

Positive. I have a White Volvo in Chicago area.

 

I don't know what their pay is as company drivers but it may be a step forward for them even at these rates if all their cost is fuel after discounts and maintenance.
I would not work for them as a company driver or an owner operator, I'd rather take a Chicago 1099 job with an old, rusty, paper logged White Volvo. I don't get along with megas.
Different strokes for different folks.

 

I hauled for $1.25 a mile ……. In 1994.

My fuel gets over .40c a mile I'm pissed.

 

Was good money back then.
Diesel was 92 cents a gallon ,
A nice used tractor with 300-500k on the clock was $15-25k

I was putting $5000 a month in my pocket after all expenses , and home every weekend and a couple nights during the week .

Back in those days I was pad $6 per hour on dirty construction jobs around Chicago, including black south neighborhoods.
On my way there, on Kennedy Expressway, I did see enviously those long hoods, chromed up and shiny ... maybe one of them was you.

 

I would think only someone who doesn't know any better....
