Whats the longest wheelbase you can have (pulling 53' van) and do you have to have the speed governor ?? I'm an O/O with little money to spend on new gagets. I may be going to Gatineau and Toronto.

Speed limiters are required in Quebec and Ontario . They aren't an add on accessory , they are just a setting on your ECM .

Thanks for the reply. It looks to me that a 2005 truck can be more than 244" WB ???
And how do they enforce the speed limiter ?? I will run approx. 7% of my total miles in Canada and don't want a governor.

    Hi Tuckster.,
Keep in mind if you go tp Western Canada, (Manitoba and west), your wheelbase cannot exceed 244", all the western provinces enforce the R.T.A.C. rules now, especially Manitoba and B.C., where I live. Good luck, And Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours!

tractor wheelbases may exceed 6.2m (244") if:

    • the combination is SPIF (other than a long combination) and the tractor is manufactured in 2005 or earlier; or
    • the combination is non-SPIF.

No...if you are pulling a 53' trailer, that is considered a "long combination vehicle" so you are still restricted to the 244" law.

In ON & PG ??? Wow am I glad you responded. I'm looking at trucks now and this just shortened my list considerably. I noticed that most of the Canadian truck dealers had trucks withh 244" and less !!!

So if I'm pulling a 48' van, I can go with the 260" WB correct ???
