So I came across a load that I wanted to book posted on DAT as by Landstar Inway.
Called a guy he said it’s not going thru Landstar, but thru “X”, which He asked if I was setup with, I didn’t recall so he was going to send me a setup packet.
Packet came from him with his signature as an independent Landstar agent, and his business “Z”, not the same as “X which is supposed to broker the load.
So they want me to sign my life away, pretty much be an additional insured on the policy, have some crazy (higher than what I have) cargo limits. I was willing to put them as certificate holder at best, but I started reading the contract and nowhere it says or refer to them as “broker”, whereas to me it does refer as carrier. No dot or mc number, no phone number no nothing, just address.
I started digging and it looks like it’s an active carrier with 12 trucks, but no broker authority. It apears there was a sister company (could’ve been brokerage), that is permanently closed.
DAT nor Truckstop doesn’t have them in their registery.
It appears to me that they are trying to sell me their own load and all would be fine but as far as I understand if they have no broker authority they have no bond, so I’m pretty much screwed if they don’t pay, on the other hand they want to be an additional insured on my policy because they know their contract is worthless.
Your thoughts?
Book it or a scam?
Not a broker posting thru independent Landstar agent, scam or not

Run far away. I have a little trucking company and little brokerage. Landstar contacts us daily about our loads that they want to double broker. We learned long ago to never work with Landstar, even if they promise its one of their own trucks. I dont know exactly what is going on in your case but its half ### and not good.
We've run loads for LS that were clearly double brokered. And had our loads go to Landstar that got double brokered. Easiest solution. Ban Landstar. I know some people leased onto them love them, but doing business with them is a joke IMO.Stray_Dog, LoneRanger, TallJoe and 6 others Thank this. -
Did you actually contact landstar in Jacksonville?
a lot of agents also run other brokerage companies to pad their profits, which I am told is a violation of their contract with LS. -

Landstar is a scam for the most part.
Only good agent that I know of is Mel out of Alabama.
They make TQL look like a Saint.Stray_Dog Thanks this. -
