We have greaseless 5th wheels... They have Teflon pads built into them. The pads do need replaced sometimes, but the last set I replaced had just over 2 years on them. And you know that I'm constantly switching trailers... If you lift the trailer with the 5th wheel as you back under, then the pad can catch, fold, and tear... That's how most of our drivers ruin them. But if you drop you bags before backing under they last a long time.

Is this something i could put on my current 5th wheel or do i have to buy a whole seperate 5th wheel?
-
Just be grateful we dont lube 5th wheels with this stuff...

The ones we have are built right into the 5th wheel... There's a couple recessed areas they fit into and bolt down with special bolts. But you could probably use a Teflon disc that goes onto the king pin of your trailer if you pull the same trailer all the time.D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

If that were the case id be looking like this guy everyday

Vampire, homeskillet, InTooDeep and 6 others Thank this. -
My experience with the disk is that it's a pain in the butt. After short use thering that holds it onto the king pin wore out so it falls off. Pain the hold it up with hooking trailer. If you never unhook it's fine.
I've got a plastic type wear pad now that bolts to the fifth wheel. Comes in many shapes for different type fifth wheels. Drill a couple holes through fifth wheel and bolt it down. Works good but still needs some grease in my opinion. Without grease it gets to creaking and popping.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
@D.Tibbitt I did a quick google search and found this web site... You can enter the make and model of your 5th wheel and it will tell you what Teflon pad you need... Looks like they just bolt to your existing 5th wheel. No idea how long they last, but I'm sure its alot cheaper than buying a 5th wheel with the pads built in.

Ive always just used 1 part lucas bottle grease mixed with 3 parts lucas green tube grease usually lasts about a month. But i only ever use one trailer. That said i have tried the pads and plates and they just dont work well with my 5th wheel and kingpin combo. Im lucky to get two or three weeks before i have holes clean through the plates. Pads usually last about a month as well before they get worn off.
