They don't really need a special lane, they hjust need every other vehicle on the road to be driverless.
I'll worry when I start seeing driverless 4 wheelers and then I'll wonder who'll take the blame when there's an incident without a driver to blame.

That is the funniest line ever.
Because none of it will EVER get repaid.
The whole mindset of these people is a credit card mindset.
Run it up to the max, and then increase the limit.
Only pay the minimum per month, with an ever increasing debt ceiling.
That minimum payment only covers the interest, if even that. -
And thats why China owns Canada and the USA .Team818 and black_dog106 Thank this.

First all the vehicles need to be networked, roads too.
It will only work if each vehicle is reporting similar to airplanes transponders and air traffic radar.
Maybe when China see the condition of the infrastructure they have foreclosed on.... -
The world leader in autonomous vehicles (Tesla) is being investigated by the feds for making claims that their vehicles work in "auto pilot" mode, and a number of people have died using that feature around the world. If they can't get it right, what hope does some little software design company have?
Some day it will happen, but probably not in our lifetime.
Senators Call for Investigation of Tesla’s Marketing Claims of Its Autopilot and 'Full Self-Driving' Features -
You didn’t read the whole article did you?
“TuSimple, a global autonomous trucking outfit valued at more than a billion dollars with operations in the U.S. and China.”
they have 50 trucks running I-10 between Phoenix and Dallas. I saw several of them last week. -
50 trucks running Phoenix to Dallas!!!
When they get 500,000 and run New York city and Boston I will plan my retirement. -
How many of those trucks are running without a human in the cab for a backup? None, that's how many. They aren't autonomous. The moment they go full autonomous and somebody dies because the software didn't work as anticipated, no insurance company in the world will cover them and they'll never be on the roads.
Tesla is worth around $700 billion, operates in just about every country on the planet, and still can't get it right. Compared to their competitors these guys aren't worth much. -
So they perfected a closed loop well enough to remove the driver.. Oh wait, no they didn't and he still has to take over in traffic and construction.
Wake me when level 2.5 gets here, much less than the level 5 these companies are claiming are right around the corner. -
Just curious:
How is fueling handled and routines enroute such as: flat tires, light out, equipment failure (brakes /power de rate/air leaks).
Lots of calculations can be made like fuel (tank size/mile range planned), but the others would be a safety factor if the non
stop plan is in use. Certainly these can be programmed to safely just stop the truck and call roadside. Tech could come on a bike with a laptop ( If Wi Fi in reach). But, actually, we are thinking of all the feelings/sounds/odors a live driver senses in time to manage safely and economically. AI puts hammer down and drags it to the end of program?
