Well we tried a lot of these ELD 'Solutions' and sticking with the big boys for a lot of reasons.
The problem with these ******* ****** app based ELD packages is what happens if your device craps out or gets damaged?
I tested the keeptrucking and Eroad (among others) for a bit in a bunch of the trucks to see if they fit into the system we have here and most of the time they worked until something happened to the device.
I won't get into the integration problems for the back office but there were a bunch.
Several drivers ended up with damaged tablets because tablets are not really made for trucks (I know there are some but ...), others who used the company phone for testing dropped them (which is the reason why we are now using Otter cases). one driver had his phone drop out of his pocket as he was crossing the fuel isle to go back to his truck. He noticed he dropped it, turned around to pick it up only to almost getting run over by some idiot flying through the isle running over the phone - I made him send me the phone back to see it for myself and the video from the truck that showed the incident.
No access to an eld when the phone gets crushed with 6000 lbs.
Another reason I have is the ELD is mounted in the truck, so sometimes with a change of a driver, it is easier to have them not carry an ELD with them.Dockbumper Thanks this. -

If I were dealing with hundreds of drivers, I’d probably deal with the big boys, too, but for just a few trucks, tablets are a perfectly acceptable solution, with much more versatility than a dedicated ELD unit.
