Yeah, I see 100% where you are coming from. My problem isn't that I'm trying to find a perfect company, I know no such thing exists.

My problem is the companies that I've narrowed it down to all seem pretty good. None of them seem to blow the rest out of the park or anything. I guess what I'll probably have to do is just make a judgement call and hope it all works out for the best. Or maybe see how I feel after talking with recruiting and go from there.

I know truck cleanliness is a big one. If one of these companies can get me into a non-smokers truck that would probably help narrow it down, because you never 100% get that smoke smell out. And to a non smoker like myself that sucks having to live in something where you can still (even just faintly) smell the stale smoke (nothing against smokers though lol).

Anyways I'll try to quit clogging up this thread and other ones. Everyone on this forum has been real helpful. I'll be so relieved when I don't have to worry about researching companies/researching jobs anymore.

You definitely won't have to worry about the truck being cleaned or not smoked in. Most likely it'll be brand new, mine was. But even if you get a used one, they are very good about cleaning them, if you communicate to your recruiter that you don't want something that has been smoked in, you won't have to worry about it. You even get a choice of manual or auto. As for your other question about perdiem, yes they do offer it, it's 11 cents per mile if I remember correctly. You are right there is no perfect job, but this one is a hell of a lot better than some others. Give recruiting a call and give em a chance. Whatever you decide good luck to you, and glad to see you are doing your homework and taking the process seriously, there are way too many job hoppers out here. They also pay more starting out if you have a good solid work history. I found that out by mistake during orientation when at the end while the other guy was taking his test, the lady in charge brought out my paperwork to sign, agreeing to the pay Package, ect. She accidentally brought me another driver's paperwork ( honest mistake) his name was similar to mine and was sitting next to me. I didn't even notice the name at first, just that the pay was way different than I'd agreed to, like 4 cents less! I was ready to go home when she took the paperwork back to recruiting and discovered her mistake. Lol ... goes to show it literally pays to stick it out with whatever job you have until you've got a good amount of time there. Job hopping doesn't help anyone

 

Most likely a new truck. I was offered a new truck but opted for this KW as it had the extra bunk for storage. It had 60k on it but it looked brand spanking new on the inside. It was very obvious someone went the extra mile to prep it for the next driver.

optional 11 CPM can be per Diem
or receive it all as income. Your choice.

 

What truck were you offered that didn't have the upper bunk? I thought they all had them, my freightliner does. I store a lot of crap up there LOL that would be a big issue at this point if I got into another truck that didn't have that. I wouldn't mind having a Pete or kw on my next one, I really would like to have a white one next time though, I hate this red, too hard to keep clean. I sure like the option of being able to have a manual again though. It's nice to know there are still companies that will order trucks that are... Trucks! LOL

 

I think most of our trucks don’t come with the upper bunk. I could be wrong. CEO said at one of the safety meetings that they would be ordering more trucks equipped with the upper bunk as they didn’t cost much more, they get better fuel mileage, and they know drivers like the extra space.

I actually saw a Red Volvo on the yard a couple weeks ago. Hoping they start to get more of them in.

 

Volvos are OK, until you need to get work done. #### near impossible to get into a shop sometimes.

 

Question... Chewy in Grady Niblo rd at Dallas, TX is the receiving department open on Sunday’s?

 

Yes, but if you have an appt they won't take you early.
