So If I am paying them monthly, do I owe them the rest when I leave?
-
You would have to read your contract. But many times it depends on whether they will be able to use the plate you turn in on another truckBean Jr. and RichTrucker2020 Thank this.
-
Yep u can take them, u can't use the, u are supposed to turn them in
RichTrucker2020 Thanks this. -
The registration is more than likely not in your name because you’re leasing your truck to a company. You’d have no use for them at another company. You’d have to look at your contract as far as costs.cke and RichTrucker2020 Thank this.

Not only that, if you lease your truck somewhere else, which has to be allowed or it would be an employment situation, you should not use the plates from your carrier to do that.nikmirbre Thanks this.

You can run your own plates even if leased on to a company which might be a good idea if you are not sure you will stay with the next company
That said
You turn in your plates and companies I have leased to or heard of will sell the remaining part of your plate to the next guy and reimburse you
I have always ran my own with the exception of the past couple years but when I left the last company in June my new plate that was only a couple months old was 15th in line for resale
That says two things. A lot of O/O left right after getting new plates and that 15 need to come on for me to see any $$
I think they’ll expire before they get sold -
So, basically you paid for the whole cost of the plates upfront at the last company? Or you have to pay the remaining amount when you left?
-
Last company was upfront
The one now is weekly but not sure how they work it if I leave
I’ve always ran my own but bought a new truck and dealer messed up my paperwork and I needed plates ASAP and grabbed company plates
After this year I’ll be back on my ownBean Jr. Thanks this.
