I am curious as an O/O myself, what is to be expected as a guy leased to a company, not flatbed or oversized hauling, just normal van (box) driving job. At what point does one feel he's getting to little $$$ and I know some will settle for less, but on the average what are we making out here as O/O's.
Is it 500.00??
is it 1000.00??
is it 1,200.00?
Is it 1,500.00??
or maybe even 2,000.00
I am just curtious what we make and what to expect, as I am sure that others out here are too.
What is the average pay for O/O's leased onto Companies?

We pull the following Bear,
STEP/DROP/Special/RGN - General Steel, for Flat
Its LOW weeks averages around :$1800 - The Averages for high weeks are but will not stay steady around $2350.
Our basis weeks are $2150.
Now,
The ##### is this. Unless you own your own athourity and go out and rent/lease or buy your flatbed ( IF ) your not into flat the odd's of a company leasing you into their fleet with no experiences wont happen.
Do to the general liability this is why in some cases to run flatbed a person or employee has to have 1 year (FLAT) Verifiable. Sometimes 2.
So, The gist of this..... is if you dont hae FLAT exp, you may not get a chance if you dont have your own Company with your own authority.
Sorry for the Info......
All the best,
Matt -
I am leased to Great Wide (formerly Clarksville Refrigerated Lines/Transport Industries). The terminal I run out of in Opelika, AL delivers to Wal Mart's grocery side. Our loads are all dependent on how much business Wally is doing.
In the winter months, it slowed down, but I was still averaging over $1000 a week after expenses. I don't run illegal, and I usually work 5 or 6 days. My best take home was $2200 since I have been here. Average overall last summer/fall was about $1500-1700 take home.
I took off Sunday, didn't get a call on Monday, worked 2 routes on Tuesday, and didn't get a call yesterday. I finally got a call a few minutes ago, and they only had about 5 routes-all in Alabama. I live in GA, so unless I was able to get another route to GA I would lose money to go home (about 120 miles round trip). I guess the bottom line is... find someone that will keep you with steady work. Talk to other drivers there, and see what's realistic.
Anyways... There's money to be made. Considering that your carrier handles the cargo insurance, that takes a huge expense out of your hands. Some will pay for your base plates, and possibly your fuel taxes. -
Thank you for sharing your info...
When you say after expenses... Is there a truck payment calculated in with your expenses? Or do you own it out right?
If you own a truck out right and don't have a payment, do you save with every check to buy another one in the future when you estimate your current one will be worn out? -
Expense would be everything that effects the Truck. Including payments of it.
In my Business Plan, all I have right now, I'm taking a certain amout per mile out to repay a loan for the truck I hope to buy some day. With the plan of when it is paid off, leave that part in for future purchases and put the money into a savings so it'll also collect interest so when I am ready to buy another truck, I'll have it. If I have more than one truck running, I'll have ability to buy more or replace sooner.
So with my numbers it will cost me approx 91 cents just to move the Truck, not counting my pay. Could I do it for less? yes but Growth would be taken out of plans. Can my plan work? Yes, but I would have to be picky on the load I haul. Could it cost more to run it than I am looking at? Yes, but I'll be flexiable. What I am seeing on here, I may have to alter my fuel amount. I'm about 7 cent to low on the account. So I would be raising it not just 7 cents but 9 cents per mile. I also have a 7 cents unforseen deal to cover anything I may not have set aside enough for. With my plan I am taking in for Fuel, Loan/additions, Tires and repairs, tags and taxes, Insurance, and Misc or safety margin. Later I'll add to it Drivers pay and will lower the amount I am taking out for loan but it will remain.
Will my Idea and Plan work, only time will tell, But I do have faith in it. -
In my case, "expenses" are those taken out by the carrier:
-IFTA
-Bobtail/Physical Damage Insurance
-Fuel
-Accident Policy (whatever the heck that means)
-any ComData usage fees
I pay my truck payment, taxes, tags, and any maintenance out of what's left. If I did own my truck out-right, I would indeed save up for the new one. I would just pay a savings account, and use those funds for maintenance, and possibly a new truck. -
All E/C Expense's and Costs are: FUEL / DRIVER PAY, TOLLS, Tax's, TRAILER RENTAL if any, Ect..... ( Dont forget to take out $55.00 to $100.00 PER WEEK to escrow and BANK special for TIRES / BREAK FIX stuff, and General PM work.
All the best,
Matt -
Best Wishes in your new endeavor!!!
You CAN make really GOOD MONEY if you steer clear of companies that pay .87 to .92 cpm!!!!!!!
There are a few good companies out there, pay on percentage, and actually want to make $$$$ with YOU, NOT OFF OF YOU!!
Look into any of the GREAT WIDE COMPANIES.
Look at Pacer Trans in Desoto, TX
Good Luck, use your head, and HAPPY TRUCKIN '
Need any advice , ideas or tips. Just ask.
We goin' 10-7
