My last job would charge $1 a mile for out of route, but it wasn't too bad as it really depends on what is out of route.
They didn't care how you got to the shipper as long as you were on time. What they considered as out of route was taking the wrong trailer. The trailers are loaded 100% of the time, either parts/dunnage, or just dunnage. As such there is always a BoL. So the BoL has the trailer number and seal number, and then the electronic dispatch has the same information again. The only way to get out of miles is to be super lazy.

That has to do with getting under paid, which is an issue on either route. So again, why would the longer route be able to be sued and the shorter route not? That's what you implied anyway.

I’m not the frivolous lawsuit suing type. Unless I’m just completely out right wrong. Not going to sue my company but, I do expect them to be fair. Telling me to go an extra hundred miles when I’m already not getting paid the actual miles that it’s required to drive, and then telling me I have to go that way, that’s nonsense.

I just got out of a meeting with my driver manager who was a truck driver for 20 years. He whispered to me that he completely agreed with me. Lol I broke it down for him. It’s literally almost $100 of free driving. For one freaking trip. Pardon my French but that just ain’t right.

"That's trucking" is the usual explanation for some Catch-22 situation the compay creates. Customers waste your hours, but you are expected to fix it with some magic nobody will type in a message or say on a recorded phone call. When you say "the customer held me for 7 hours, I can't make up for the delay by driving 280 mph for 9 hours. Why don't you charge detention and/or reschedule?" The company says "that's trucking".

Everybody outside of the truck does everything for their convenience and all they ask of you is to never go home, supply free labor, eat bad food, and work like a robot. That's trucking.

If it was me I'd drive the shortest route I could find because if they are paying for 500 but then telling me that I have no choice but to drive 600 they must think that I'm an idiot. The company I was driving for pays zip-zip miles and sometimes you cant find a route that is even close but the point is: I CHOOSE THE ROUTE! and I can find a route shorter than they are paying occasionally as well.

Are they going to charge him negative out of route miles for going a shorter way? Sounds like a bonus to me. Some companies just might be this dumb.

I don’t understand how a company can provide a route, then pay 10% less then the miles it take to run that route. That’s not trucking, that’s ########.

I’m glad I work for a company that believes we are professional enough to route our selfs. They are only paying zip to zip practical miles though, but they are usually close, some times I can even beat them.

It is, they want all their trucks on the same route, if he encounters a problem and the load has to be repowered or other issues occur help is going by.

I think u understand. The issues isn't the route. But that fact is that they are shorting him miles on both routes.
He wouldn't have an issue with either route had he been paid actual or close miles
