They do surprisingly well on ice well when they are loaded. You have to be cautious when empty, and focused when you are bobtail. You'll, be alright with winter driving eperience.

I went to school in January and trained in February. Just do it.
born&raisedintheusa, Chinatown and N00bLaLoosh Thank this. -
My first month was January. I’m from a climate where it might snow every 10 years. Running in the winter was okay, just take it easy and follow some of the advise given here and that your school will surely give.
Just remember, if the conditions are such that you don’t feel comfortable get off the road. Also, if chains are needed, put them on. Don’t be that guy that slides off the road because he didn’t chain.sevenmph Thanks this. -

1) Your profile says that you live in Warrensburg Missouri.
2) CFI is in Joplin Missouri.
3) The distance between Warrensburg & Joplin is approximately 160+ miles away / approximately 2.5 to 3 hours away.
Suggestion, (providing that you are single, not married, & not raising any children):
1) Move from Warrensburg to Joplin. You could probably rent a room in a boarding house or in an inexpensive but decent motel, or rent a studio apartment, as both your residence & domicile. Be sure your CDL & other records have your new address on them.
2) With all the driving that you will be doing for CFI, you can return to Joplin, park the truck in the yard, and have whatever maintenance is necessary done to your truck during home time.
3) Also, when your done driving after a long trip, it would be a very short trip to your home, instead of having to drive 160+ miles or 2.5 to 3 hours to get home.
NOTE:
1) If you choose, you could also have direct deposit of your paycheck into Great Plains Federal Credit Union. Just like CFI, the home office of the credit union is in Joplin Missouri.
Home › Great Plains FCU
2) Just thinking, CFI, the credit union for your paycheck, and your home would all be within a short distance of each other, ALL in Joplin Missouri. There aren't a whole lot of OTR truck drivers that have these combined conveniences.
3) Again, this only if you choose to do this. I realize that you may or may not be able to do any or all of this.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!
The absolute sheer driving force of our national economy - without truck drivers, our entire national economy would come to an absolute standstill - if not outright be dead.
Over the mountains, through the woods, into the valleys, coast to coast, from sea to shining sea - truck drivers can and do go anywhere and everywhere, every day, every night, all year round.Last edited: Aug 24, 2021

Thanks for the suggestion but I am married and well established here. I’m 53 years old and retired law enforcement so this will be my second career. CFI also has a terminal in Kansas City which is only an hour away .
born&raisedintheusa Thanks this.
