Hello
I have a question and i hope i get a good answer for it , i have a box truck and i want to run under my friend MC what exactly i need interms of the insurance , is it a must he add me to his policy or i can get my own policy and still run under his mc without him involving in the insurance ?!
my most concern is about the insurance because he is little afraid for his insurance !!! So can i just get my own but still run under his mc and his insurance has nothing to do with me
thanks
Running under someone elses authority with my box truck?

He can charge you back for the insurance, but the policy has to be in the name of the company that has the authority. He will also have to have a driver qualification file, drug tests, etc on you too. In addition to a contract outlining the terms of your business relationship.

His authority, his insurance...and he can charge back insurance, trailer rent, keep an escrow, etc.
If you get into an accident, your insurance will not cover it as you are working for the 'motor carrier' and when 'under dispatch' covered by the insurance on file with the authority.
I have a guy who had his own authority but leased to us as he didn't have enough business on his own.
On his off day, went to get an oil change and was in an accident and his insurance dropped it quick saying maintaining his truck on a non work day was STILL for the benefit of the motor carrier.
My insurance went to a NJ insurance 'expert' who indicated there is already legal precedent in NJ and we would loose...we are covering the loss.Last edited: Aug 25, 2021
RedForeman and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
He has to cover the cargo insurance, and as mentioned he has to act like you, a driver is an employee and the truck has to have a contract to put his numbers on your truck, it isn’t easy for a reason. Anything less is illegal and if you get into an accident, he can be sued beyond the insurance amount and you can be sued separately.Bean Jr. Thanks this.

two trucks -or- two thousand trucks, still the same requirements. you can't be a 'little bit' of a carrier same as one cannot be a 'little bit' pregnant.Brettj3876, God prefers Diesels and Bean Jr. Thank this.

He doesn't know what he's doing.
What you need to wonder about is: what else he doesn't know about that could come back to harm you.Last Call Thanks this. -
