I did ask and was told that they do it on a case by case need. I would suggest calling safety and ask for Mort to get a definitive answer.

Well I just have to tell you all about my pay for this past trip. Last Thursday we got a message over the Peoplenet telling us that because of the holiday's the next two weeks, payroll will have a Monday at noon cut off for any trips completed in order to be payed on Thursday. Well, we are set up with trippak scanning, the only problem is there isn't any within 75 miles of Orlando, and I wasn't unloaded until 1pm. I called payroll and spoke with Danielle who told me to fax the paperwork in and that she would take care of it. I found an Office Depot around the corner from my delivery and faxed them in. I called into payroll this morning and was told by a very pleasant voice belonging to Danielle that everything was taken care of and this trip will be paid with the rest of my miles Thursday. Very nice job from our new payroll clerk! Thanks Danielle!

Now that we are at the end of the year, is any one interested in my totals and averages for my four and a half months of employment here at Calex?

Welcome to the thread pilot, I'll be glad to answer your questions for you. We have medical/dental/vision that take effect the first of the month following your thirty days, so if you start on the fifteenth of January you coverage starts on March 1st. We have three levels of coverage based on deductibles. I have the middle level for my wife and myself and it costs me $75 p/w. Dental is another $20 p/w. I live here in South Florida and have only missed being home 3 weekends in 4 1/2 months working for Calex. Garylobo who has been with the company for 5 weeks and lives in Orlando has been home every weekend but one and can tell you more about the cost for family coverage regarding the Medical insurance. I have done my numbers for the time I've been here and my miles have averaged out to 2795 p/w since I started. Calex is not your typical 48 state carrier. Everything we do is based on being dispatched out of Pittston Pa and brought right back. We run all 48 states. The way they run it's best to live at either end of their freight lanes, and really that is all they hire. You living in Orlando is perfect, the only problem being they will only hire someone when there is a need for a driver in that area. Garylobo waited 5 weeks after he was ok'd to be put on. If you have anymore questions after reading the thread please ask, I'll do my best to answer your questions.

Been following your thread & find it interesting as well as encouraging that there are still some good otr companies out there.

Appreciate the recap on your time at Calex. Judging from your post I know the final result at this time is you are pleased with your decision to hire on with them.

Have a safe & happy holiday. The same goes out to the rest of the folks on this forum.

Thank you very much for your quick answer; I was reading your thread since the begining and is very informative and encourging. Is not easy to be working where you are just a number.....I'll be really happy to wait until there is an opening in this area.
I need to get some sleep....so I hope to talk with you tomorrow, thank you again.

Like I've said, I will post everything that I feel needs to be said, good or bad. I hope people understand that this job works just fine for me and that I truly enjoy the work environment here. Yes we are identified by our first name here, not by truck number. The thinking that you need to run 4000-5000 miles a week to make a decent pay check is so old school. I think I've seen over 4000 miles in a week twice in 4 1/2 months. I'll post my year ending numbers sometime today. God Bless and Happy Holidays!

I'm pretty sure that whatever question you have has been written about, but if not just ask. The one thing we are not here are numbers, this is a company that calls you by name. As far as an opening in Orlando I will find out today and let you know. I need to call into Safety and wish everyone a Happy Holiday.

    pilot500 Thanks this.

Good afternoon JohnBoy I hope you had a great night with your family, I had a great night and morning with mine. Could you tell me about vacation, Per diem, holidays, detention pay, breakdown pay, sick time or any other extra benefits that Calex offer?
I don't have any, well 1 week vacation after 1st year and one holiday I think; I know you are making great money and great home time, and your truck is equipped with driver confort in mind; I'm lucky to have an electric mirrow on the passanger side on my tractor but at least I can paid my bills and as long as I do whatever they ask to do no matter what, they will give about 2000 miles a week; I'm thankful because some drivers in Heartland are getting 1000 or less a week. Before I make any decision I really want to find a company where I can grow and be there for the long term. Thank you for your help again.
