So my truck is in the shop for a few days... I roll the hood every other day as long as things are soumding/feeling/acting ok. I stab the oil once or twice a week unless I notice a problem.
Well sometime between last Wednesday (last time I stabbed the oil) and this morning the engine developed a pretty substantial leak. But its one of those that only leaks at speed/higher oil pressure. So no oil stains on ground where I park the truck... I did manage to find 2 small spots about the size of a quarter on the ground tonight when I went to double check. And its clear back on the rear of the engine by the firewall... So 99% of the visible oil residue can only be seen by climbing clear under the truck.
Well I noticed the oil pressure a little low about 2 hours into my day... Then a little bit later my jakes quit working. That was the moment I knew I had more than a small problem. Was still maintaining 30 psi oil pressure and no low oil pressure warnings from the dash. I got into my delivery and rolled the hood... Oil wasnt even on the #### stick!!! In a Volvo thats at least 3 gallons low. And from underneath the truck I could see ALOT of oil residue on the back of the engine and over the transmission.
After delivery I babied it about 6 miles to a Flying J to get some oil... Ever seen 10w-30 FA-4 or even 10w-30 CK-4 oil at a truck stop??? Yeah me neither, so it got 2 gallons of 15w-40 CK-4. That got it up into the "safe" zone on the stick. Over the next 3.5 hours or so it leaked about a pint I figure. But it got oil pressure back to normal operating pressure and got the truck back to the yard... So for the next few to several days I get to join the "Cascadia Life" group while my Volvo is at the dealer for repairs under warranty. Anything extra I need to bring along... Flip flops, track suit, sweat pants, multiple GPS devices?????
What if it Snows?

I just had to deal with the hurricane related thundertain for my morning commute, but at least it will miss my route territory. I wasn’t looking forward to having to do liftgate deliveries in that crap.

Ida is expected here maybe tonight. Exact track is unknown.
I recently tried to start the genset and found it wont run. Time to work on that before Ida kills the power. Hoping its just bad ethanol fuel.Dale thompson, Speed_Drums, homeskillet and 6 others Thank this. -
