I applied for DOT/MC number with the intention to run under my own authority but things have changed and instead ill be leasing onto another company (using their authority)
Are there any penalties for not activating my own dot# , and would I be able to "pick it back up" in the future once I decide to run under my own? I've already paid the fee, got dot# and MC , just no insurance.
Thank you
Are there penalties for not fully activating authority ?

I had a DOT and MC number for a while, then made it inactive since I no longer needed it. They told me it would be $300 to reactivate it which is what I paid originally to get it.

I believe you have 1 year to activate your authority w/ insurance. if you don't do it within a year, you have to start the process over again if you decide to try your hand at your own authority.

My dad reactivated his in 2017ish after not being active for about 10 years.

I think what the OP is saying is he was issued a DOT number but he didn't activate it(insurance)...... he has 1 year.
OldeSkool and Brettj3876 Thank this.
