O/O that run RG trailers?

    How many O/O out there run Removable Gooseneck trailers. What kind of rates are to be expected? Is there enough freight to stay busy? I have a 50 ton fontaine. Any info would be great.

    I've heard the rates are usually great but loads are usually some of the first to die when the economy slows. A friend hauls military equipment (currently on a drop deck) but he said commercial heavy equipment all but dies when things are slow.

    Just did a quick search and found a LINK BELT 240LX EXCAVATOR 33L X 11'1W X 9'8H 54,000lbs from GA to KY paying $1000 for 413 miles ($2.42 mi) which isn't very good especially if their not buying permits but for the return I found a Grove crane going from Ohio to VA, 85,000lbs Grove RT745 25'L x 11'W x 12'5H paying $3600. which is about $10.11 per mile. I'm assuming you'd have to furnish the permits but that's not too bad.

    The rates suck most of the loads you find want you to pay for the permits and pilot cars out of the rate on the load when it used to be all extra say no to od ow freight that is not plus plus always figure your permits before decideing on a rate. oh and that return load at 85000 lbs would probably take 8 or 9 axles although not a bad rate for a specialized trailer as long as permits were extra.

    From what I see and my buddy deals with everyday...the RGN/double drop rates suck. TMC and a few other fleets have cut the rates just like every other sector of trucking and after permits, pilot cars, and the extra time involved the rates are about the same as a legal flatbed load. Even military rates have dropped and many of the brokers are with holding the fuel surcharge (CRST is one that does this). The only good rates and loads left are with established machinery movers and a person won't just be able to get loads from them...you pretty much have to prove yourself and have some one refer you.

    I didn't buy the trailer. It was given to me. I had a large construction company for awhile until the economy tanked. My grandfather also had a big company. We have both sold just about all are equipment. We are trading somethings I am getting the trailer, out of one of are deals. That is the reason I am asking about the prices for the heavier loads.

    I stay busy with RGN. I'm also established with the heavy equipment brokers as well and have my own authority. Oh yeah, put a printer in your truck and you'll save yourself a few hundred a month in Fax fees
