Yes I've owned the 7.5 QD. The new models are 6.0 and 8.0 I believe.

The Onan is about 1/4 the noise or less than a truck APU.
Similar to a Honda inverter generator with sound. Very very quiet. Should be a benchmark for the APU industry imo.

The key to generator noise is rpm. Older units have four-pole gensets which develop 60Hz electricity at 1,800 rpm. The industry shifted away from this to two-pole gensets to save cost and weight. Half the iron and copper. These sets need to run at 3,600 rpm. Gas or diesel, the physics are the same.

Then there is engine size. A smaller engine needs to make the same HP but has to work harder to do so. Hence, the 2-cyl vs 3-cyl difference.

My design eschews the traditional burn fuel to spin thingy to spin magnet thingy to make juice to spin other thingy to compress gas to make cold (or heat). It is a totally stupid system that converts liquid energy to heat energy by converting through a mechanical, then electrical, then back to mechanical energies with losses along the way.

What is a price point that truckers will pay for a quiet, reliable, and effective system for a truck? I'm an engineer not a driver, so I really don't know the answer to this but it seems that a lot of you pay what, $10K, or thereabouts for the APU's out there? My target market was RV's, but only the very high end would support a product in this price range so I shelved it.

Also, it was not diesel, but gasoline/LPG, which was more geared to traditional (normal middle class family) RV'ers who wouldn't know diesel from dust. A diesel version is possible, but changes my powerplant choice.

It is also operable on shore power.

    mudflap77 Thanks this.
