Southbound. Choose a gear and set the engine brake.Dockbumper and Kolorado Thank this.

Alright i'm going northbound
TheLoadOut Thanks this. -
Slow down early. Let your engine down shift a couple gears before the decent, just like you would downshift a couple gears in a manual before starting the hill. Use your jake brake on full if heavy. Lightly use the air brakes only as needed. Never slam the brakes or jerk the wheel.
I find taking it slow with the right gear and the jake brake on, the truck will keep it under control for me.
But I've only been driving 3 years so feel free to correct me if I'm off basealds, Trucker61016 and Kolorado Thank this. -
Southbound Cajón pass has a hill ? Never paid attention, but they sure have those chicken coops on an odd place by the 138.

Don't be nervous. It's the first mountain I traveled. Pick your speed. Set Jake. Little bit of brakes. Here and there. You'll be fine.
Dockbumper and BunBaoPho88 Thank this. -
