Look I might be missing some thing here but there are many company's out there that can and will get you home on a regular basis and pay you enough money so you can afford to be home. There is more to this story than meets the eye but there are very few drivers who are wiling to stay on the road for months at a time and then ride a bus home just for home time. They are required to get you back to same place you started out from when you hired on, if you rode a bus there then that's on you but as far as the dispatcher not knowing that info sounds like they are just telling you what ever they think will keep you trucking for them the way they want and deliver there freight so they make a bundle and feed you peanuts.

You see some pretty young girl working the parking lots. "Why are you doing this?" "Well, I am a single mom of a 2 yr old boy and I need the money." "Sweetheart, there are much safer ways to make money. If you want to hook, don't work the streets and parking lots, find yourself a sugar daddy with deep pockets and let him pay your bills. Worlds safer than roaming the streets."

OP is running team, not making any money, can't go home...and is now trying to figure out how he can catch a ride back to the parking lot to hook.

Dude, youre in a bad situation. If you're gonna hook, you should at least make money. If you're gonna hook, you should at least have some smarts about you. You don't have to be pimped out, you don't have to roam the streets for crack money if you have talent.

I'm going to have to agree with the consensus here.

Your working for a company that is too cheap to even provide average home time accommodations.

I'll give you an example of what a boss does that cares about his employee/s.

Before Thanksgiving I had arranged to be home by Mon or Tuesday and roll back out the following Mon with a full belly and happy from lots of 'snuggle time' with my wife.

I got hung up in SC. Ended up laying over for 3 days which put me in a bad position with a load heading to Texas and no way to make it home to Florida in time for Turkey dinner with my family. My boss understood how important this was to me. He paid for me to stay in a hotel for the weekend instead of stinking up the truck at the shipper for 3 days. After I got loaded we agreed Atlanta would be the best place to park the truck and get a rental car. Paid for the parking fee at the Petro there. I then rented a car and made it home by Tuesday morning. He paid for the rental car plus the gas I paid in the car. Plus I got a nice check for detention/lay over while I was in SC.

I know most companies wont do all of that. But there are companies that will. Especially if you are a good driver and make your boss money. I know what its like to work for a tyrant of a boss. I know what its like to feel like crap all the time because nothing you do is good enough. From that experience,.. I urge and plead you,.. please find a better company to work for. They are out there.

Just because you live in Florida does not mean you have to be confined to work for companies based in Florida. I work for a Lithuanian guy who is based in Chicago. Imagine my apprehension to work for my boss after all of the stereotypes I read about working for europeans based in Chicago. I am treated better than any American I have ever worked for. I am paid very well and I couldnt be happier. So I am here to tell you,.. there are other options out there.

Good luck with what ever you decide.

I just quit my company because despite informing them that I needed to be home this Friday morning for a few hours to handle some personal business, a load was booked for me on Thursday that wasn't going to route me through the house. Yes, I was home on Friday morning as scheduled. :)

I"m wanting to wait till my partner comes back to Florida, as I like working with my co-driver, but I just received a call from the company and the lady I spoke with said she didn't even know I was home. She stated the customer called to find out why the truck wasn't moving. Seems my partner contacted the company yesterday stating the truck, which still needs repairs when it gets back, had to be put in the shop again. So my partner is in Amarillo, TX won't even make the delivery, which the dispatcher who came in for a 1/2 day knew about, yet no information was left for after hours (not the first time we've experienced poor communication within the company). So even if I had made my way to Detroit, I would have had to wait for him till he got there. My partner is okay, as I just called him, and I keep in touch with him regularly. The short, its not a good company, I don't make much, have to sit a lot, and I'm not in a good financial position to pay for my way to Detroit where I don't even know how long it would be before I got back home.

Thanks for all the advice, but I'm staying put as my partner is okay, hasn't asked me to come back knowing my situation, and then I'll make a decision with him as to what I'll do, but most likely will want to team with him if possible. Lastly, if the weather was good and my financial situation was better I'd probably do it, as I'm not sleeping good while this is going on nor making any money while being home. Thanks again for the advice take care all and may you all have a wonderful holiday.

TryHours is a flaky expediting company and it sounds like he is driving for some contractor that leases to them. Sounds like he and his partner need to put their man-panties on and tell these people to get them home...

This sounds worse than CRE. Prime might be a good choice for you both and they do have some loads coming to and from Florida. And so far the hometime my husband has requested has been met, even though he does not come home every month, it is according to what is going on.
