Hello fellow truckers,
New member here but I've been lurking for a while. This forum is packed with useful info so thanks to everyone who contributes.
I was a class B driver for years and now I'm in class for my A. Once I have that in my hands I'm getting the heck out of my state.
I like Las Vegas. Unfortunately I'm reading this is a "dead zone" for trucking. A lot of stuff goes in, not much goes out.
How is life in Las Vegas for truckers? I'm sure I could find something out there at a mega carrier but how is it for owner operators? Are the load boards totally dead for freight going in and out of Vegas? I want to buy my own truck in a few years.
Thanks guys.

Las Vegas/Henderson - great places to live and work. I moved here from Tennessee and live in Seven Hills, Henderson. I can see the Las Vegas Strip which is about 15 minute drive.
Another driver on this forum moved here very recently also.
Many owner-operators live here; I'm not really that informed though on owner-operator jobs, other than there's plenty here.
Which company driver type job are you interested in?Last edited: Sep 22, 2021

Thanks! Henderson looks nice. I've only been to Vegas once as a tourist on the strip. Party days are over but I will enjoy the warm weather and no state income tax.
I was going to apply at Old Dominion in my home state then see if I can transfer somewhere out west once I prove myself to the company. Vegas is my first choice but I need to put my career first so if it sucks for trucking jobs then I would head to Dallas or Houston. Seems to be booming out there but the desert is calling me for some reason. -
Yes it is horrible for freight. No matter which trailer. You will be deadheading to la or slc to get a decent rate

Nice! A company job should be no problem then. I have experience delivering beer. I'm sure they have a lot of beverage work out there. Really trying to give my back a rest though! Sick of throwing around kegs. Line haul sounds good to me.D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

Thanks for the info. Bummer about that. I'm just looking for a place that is warm in the winter, no state income taxes, decent amount of freight going in and out. Is that too much to ask? Might have to move to Houston.
How is Jacksonville Florida? Also dead? I will join DAT and have a look around.D.Tibbitt Thanks this.
