Wanting to replace these saddles on both front shocks. I’ve never changed these before. Can you just unbolt the 2 U bolts and R&R? Or do you have to jack the frame up to release some of the tension off the leaf springs?

If it were me I would jack up and block the frame so both steers were off the ground before unbolting, for safety. Wierd things can happen with springs under pressure.

Yeah I know and that’s what I was thinking. I just have never took them apart so I don’t know what would happen and this is my first Peterbilt so I’m Not too familiar with some of their parts/procedures.

Is this something that you would replace the U bolts as well? For piece of mind or is it recommended?

I dont like reusing u-bolts. Most times its faster to torch off the old and just replace. If they are newer and it good shape and not all rusty, you could. Pretty inexpensive and critical part to skimp on.

Just wondering why? Are you talking about the top block that shock bolts to? Or bottom block between spring and axle? Just looking at it. Top block, Shock, no problem. Bottom block, you’ll need to get tire off the ground high enough jacking/ supporting the frame, then another jack supporting the axle, high enough that it can be lowered after UBolts are off. New Ubolts will be needed once they’re taken loose.

The sleeve that the shock slides on is worn almost all the way through. Noticed bushing was worn on shocks pulled them off and both sides were almost ate through with rust. But I got them wasn’t a big deal.

Those bolts often won't come out, or are worn to one side. I always order replacements when I do steer springs.
