DOT and Isurance question

    I drive a truck that I operate and I do not own. The truck is under my fathers name and so is the insurance and DOT and fictitious name of the truck but I make all payments. My question is I am wanting to make my own fictitious name or LLC name and get my own DOT number and state number but want to know if I am able to change the name and DOT of my truck but still have it under his name and insurance?

    Short answer, no. The primary liability insurance must match the US DOT number the truck is operated under, so to keep using dad's insurance you will need to operate the truck under his DOT number. Now, you can own the truck and lease it to his DOT number but to have your own DOT number you must have your own public liability insurance.
