OK another question related to this topic that I kind of brought up in my original post. Where is a good place to buy a good used truck. Something under 300K miles that I can get a full extended warranty on?

Save the money for the extended warranty and put it into your maintenance account. Right now, there's no good place to buy that truck without paying a premium.

    I agree to a point
Unless you have an extra $30k in the bank then the extended warranty is just $200 or whatever a month more added to the loan

That’s how people shop and buy
Car dealers first question is how much can you afford per month not how much do you want to spend
Then they put you on a car that they can make that number work with

I have $50,000 saved. I can put up to $25,000 down. Yes I could probably get a brand new truck, but if rates nose dive, having a $700 weekly truck payment is a bit scary.

It's not, "IF"...it's WHEN. It's inevitable the pendulum will swing the other way. The next downturn is going to be very bad for many carriers.

    Agree
Something always happens and life does have. And needs to have its “resets” or needs to correct itself

I also think there will be a downturn but don’t believe it will be all doom and gloom for everyone

There will be the ones who either jumped in to make a quick buck and those who never should have driven a truck much less owned one who will be out

Those that can run a numbers game and operate a business, actually of any kind will be the ones who not only stay afloat but may also grow as a result

25 -35. Cash, Not loans will get you a decent truck. What type of terrain do you prefer to run. East coast, west coast, flats.?
I would expand your horizon on the millage to under 500k. The experts here on buying and selling trucks will correct me if I'm wrong.

Well I’ve been a company driver long enough to know that these dang trucks, all of them break down. And they break down pretty frequently. In fact I’ve never had a truck that didn’t have some kind of emissions problem. Every single freaking one that I’ve driven. One of them required almost a $15,000 repair but it was still under warranty for the company I drove for. All over the A-1 box on a Cascadia . I’ve driven them all and they all break down. All under 500,000 miles too.

Indeed. This business is cyclical. There's a constant ebb and flow to it. Boom and bust. Rinse and repeat.
