Rate my month! How did I do as an Owner Operator?

Since I left the house last Sunday. Net to me after Landstar, truck, fuel, blah is about $8400.

In that time, as has been mentioned, had a multi stopper that even went to a Safeway DC ( 6 hours $130 detention).

And where I'm sitting now doesn't deliver until tomorrow at 1600.

So I'll reset my clock. Already have good loads that land me right back at the door of 5 figure land.

Everything is subjective. If you're making money, what difference does anything make?

 

So you're looking at about 9 days of roughly $933/day. You have a point. Multistoppers are horrendous time wasters so the rate needs to take into account the worst case scenario in the time destroying vortex. Anyone quoting a load like that based on mileage alone is screwing themselves royally. Sounds like your daily goal is about 1k/per day.

 

At my place, very rural northern plains, we call all cats "Barb". And I love your Barb!

 

My only "goal" is to make money without literally killing myself.

People that just talk revenue crack me up. If you're expenses are only $10 less than your revenue, boy they really lit that up.

Everything is subjective. It's something that still cracks me up about many of our esteemed members that think one size fits all.

 

Are you saying you have no daily revenue goals? Technically, you can make 200 per day and not kill yourself but I'm assuming you in fact have a monetary goal in mind.

 

I never look at daily or mile. Trip. Now I don't get involved with things that take too long for the money they pay. So I guess I do have some sort of minimum lol.

But I'll take something that will make me $1500 in 3 or 4 days if it gets me to the $13K load. Sure. All day.

I rarely drive around empty.

 

So there is indeed a method to your madness. Put those together and you're still hovering around the 1k/day number lol. I tend to think 100 per hour in my head when quoting. So I shoot for 1400/day.

 

What I have learned ( the hard way ) is never do something you really don't want to. In all of life.

 

Left a load at a Shipper Thursday because I was told by the crew I would be there at least 5 hours. I had the broker call their shipping manager before I even accepted the run to get a time for me to load so I would be in/out in a reasonable time. She tells the broker they're slow so come in now. It's right next door to my yard. I was there less than an hour later. There were THREE trucks in front of me that weren't loaded and one that was almost done so somebody was lying to me. I really wasn't sitting there for 5 hours. The rate included 2 free hours on each end and broker didn't want to anything past that so...bye bye. I left. It felt great.
