Hot fuel was a big issue a few years ago (another thing OOIDA never managed to get anything done about . ) An article was written naming Flying J as the biggest culprit . I was running my own truck at the time and had been fueling mostly at Flying J due to the lower price . I had dispute with a manager and quit fueling at Flying J and did notice increased mpg right away . The companies don't heat their tanks . The higher volume stations add fuel more often and the fuel doesn't cool in the tank .

my preference would be petro mainly. with t/a being last. when my dad and i had our truck, we'd fuel at the hooks. better prices, but we seen a drop in mpg. about 1-1.5 mpg less than avg.

I guess you know the Petros and T/A's are owned by the same company . They bought T/A out first , then Petro .

This is something I've been trying to get through to a trucker friend of mine. I won't mention his name, but his initials are DAD!!!!! He can't seem to understand that when he buys fuel at the flying junk, and pours an eighteen dollar bottle of treatment in his tank to make the truck run smooth, it negates the two cents per gallon he saved. Not to mention he religiosly buys drainable fuel filters to keep the water out. Those high volume/low priced stops go through alot of fuel. hotcoldhotcoldhotcold causes lots of condensation. And, there is where all the water comes from. I won't detail the math here, but sometimes, paying the extra five, even ten cents will balance with fuel mileage/time spent waiting/fuel treatment used/filter draining\changing. Oh, no! My secret's out!!!! Darn! My only use for fuel additives is for cold weather. By the way. Anyone notice how the price of it goes up at around Oct./Nov. Then, drops back around MAR.-MAY? HMMMM! How much of that stuff can a person haul, legally, at one time? A couple cases? And, I keep a close eye on the weather, too. i don't always need it, even in the winter.

The prices go up because there dumping in winter additive at 150 dollars for two jugs. Around my area the best places to fuel if you can get in are murphy stores on the walmart property and speedway stations. All winter long these places do a 80/20 blend of K1 and deisel with the 20% being K1. I know, K1 and #1 fuel are the same just taxes diff.
