Now if Werner has reduced their fleet size by 10% and is moving 11% less freight than last year (which wasn't a great year either ) why do you suppose they are constantly hiring ?

New drivers......
I feel for ya, I really do. Trucking is in a bad way right now, especially in this economy. If this is what you want to do, then you have to suck it up and get through the next year or so. Its hard starting out, I get it, but its hard for the rest of us too. Until you get the experience you need, (6 months is not enough, sorry) you need to sit back and watch, listen and learn everything you can(I'm still doing that myself...), not only from the experienced drivers within your company, but outside your company as well.
As far as one company versus another, I haven't found any worth working for. They are all looking out for themselves and most view their drivers as just another tool....I am an independent owner operator and do not regret it one bit. No offense, but nobody really pays attention to the new driver and their issues with changing the way the things are done. Call it earning your dues or whatever. Nothing is going to change this industry until the imbalance of drivers vs driving jobs reverse, and ALL drivers put aside their greed and petty differences and decide to stand together(which will probably never happen, but one can hope). -
joeschmo111 and Beechvtail Thank this.

i was a family driver dedicated,
i hand picked 2006 pete loved it, then in july they awarded me with a new truck with all the bells and sensors. i must have been hauled into safety at least 12 times for the rollover sensor going off, every family driver knows that 5 pallets of dog food and 5 pallets of bottled water loaded on the right side and all the 1/2 empty totes on the left side is what was making the sensor go off even on some on the mildest of on ramps. but try and tell safety that. all they could say is that we were going to fast... i feel for you, i quit after one year doing it.

Werner is just a bad company man. Horrid. they left a friend of mine stuck out in a fleabag hotel for over a month when she was new (she runs tankers now). They were living on $100 a week advances ... and told them theyd get an abandonement if they took a bus home til it got fixed...
Ive met a lot of werner drivers and theyre a nice group of people. But man they get screwed (ALso: cant park worth a ####).
I'm sorry about your experience and most companies arent like that. when you go to your next company make sure they have what you WANT. Youre noones slave.
As far as idling etc.. run the miles noones g onna give a #### about your idling. If its too cold or hot to sleep idle and #### them. I had a vp call me once to tell me he was going to charge me for a "jumpstart at home" because i shut my truck down in an illinois blizard and it wouldnt start when i woke up. I told him on the phone to #### off and i best not see a penny gone out of my paycheck and hung up. I didnt hear another word.
Your gonna find your company eventually. Find one that will get you home. If they wont get you home you BEST be making 60-70k a year easy...Last edited by a moderator: Feb 28, 2013
