So I’m thinking about getting my own truck and going out I’ve been in and out of the trucking business for about 10 years now (currently I’m a operator for the union and do still drive tt somewhat frequently hauling equipment etc.) so if anything I would be leasing a truck I have done a little inquiring and have found a place local to me that would I would lease my truck to hauling containers from mass to nj everyday it’s about a 500 mile trip so figure 2500 miles weekly on average the pay is between 4500-5000 gross weekly so my question is after normal average expenses gas insurance truck lease etc what would the average take home be for a o/o making that weekly running those miles I don’t expect anyone to give me exact numbers just looking for a ball park to see if it would be worth my while to leave my current job to do so also would like some average take home numbers from o/o running local freight in New England thank you

Rough math you'd be netting around $1,000 a week before health insurance and self employment taxes. AKA less than 80% of what a company driver would be making doing the same work.

Honestly you would make more as a company driver. Between tolls, fuel taxes, taxes, maintenance, and fixed costs and everything else going to say maybe net $800 a week. Lots of miles for very little money. I run mid west and average 1600 to 1800 miles a week mon-fri and gross
5500.00 on average. Not the greatest but pays the bills and I am happy.
Cost of living in your area is thru the roof.
Would think you would need to be at least 7500 to 8500 a week gross.
