Dad's got an 18 579 that's been giving him fits as of late. After waiting for a def quality sensor for well over a month and all these other issues it's going on a diet as soon as the new ecm comes in.

Right on. I have a buddy who is thinking the same thing. Let us know how it goes. I think alot more folks are going to be going that way because of the way things are working out.

Edit: Hey, think of the bright side. Not many guys get to brag on how much better their freightliner is than a pete.......lol. So you got that going for you. :D

Mhmm. Granted alot of these issues with the def sensors are due to chip shortages, no one foresaw this becoming an issue. They were supposed to be working with the government on a bypass of that specific sensor in order to get trucks back on the road but they sat on their hands for a good 3 months before even considering that as an option and had to get government approval because it's still technically tampering with emissions.

I'd imagine now that's become something they can do in a much shorter time frame if they ever have another problem with parts. But I believe that's also going to cause alot more owner ops to come up with their own fixes so it's not an issue for them again.

His ecm is written differently than the 2016 and older engines. The software they use can't read it on an engineering level, at least not yet. If his truck was a year older it would've already went under the knife.
