He's running the spot market though. It's 100 percent unreliable. If he had a contracted customer you'd do well on those numbers.

I had a similar offer from a guy several months ago. Some of the fine details were different but it would've been an illegitimate 1099 arrangement for an o/o much like op here. I considered it as a temporary learning experience on my way to ultimately getting out on my own but I backed out. I still plan on doing my own thing but when I officially become self employed it's going to be legit. If you do this, check the guy out and proceed with caution.

It is 100% illegal to work underneath somebody driving their truck and be paid a 1099. It does not pass the independent contractor test. That is why the AB5 rule came in California and New York. Don't ever do it you give up way too many protections and freedoms as well as money.
