I have had 2 female trainees both had inappropriate things said to them during training by different people. Neither reported any of the instances for different reasons. The main reason being they didn’t want to cause ripples in this male dominated field because they both wanted to be truck drivers. They didn’t want to be labeled as troublemakers.

As for the OP the complaint against him was backed up by a witness. His intentions may not have been harassment but others perceived it to be. My best advice to him is be more self aware and work on your empathy skills. Last thing you want is a complaint to your company from a customer.

Since we’re using assumptions based upon our own experiences here, then I’ll venture to say that based upon my experience, this quoted poster is also speaking from personal experience.

Nowadays it’s super easy to offend someone with just about any conversation

being offended and being a victim is how people
    Get their Dopamine rush nowadays.
Plus being a victim or being outraged is instant status .

I usually advise the women new hires at the company i work for , if anyone makes any serious remarks that offend you , get right in their face and calmly tell them “that remark offended me , please don’t do anything like that again, this one is between me and you , if it happens again HR will be involved “

at least give the guy a warning ,
Running to HR when you can almost always deal with it yourself, is not the best option to begin with

HR is not your friend. HR isn't even the friend of the person that made the complaint. HR's only directive is to strike pre-emptively to avoid any sort of legal culpability. HR will backstab anyone involved in any sort of dispute on any side of it if it means they can get a signature or witness of some sort of shield against the company. Never trust HR, ever, even if they're pretending to be your friend or if they say "hey, it's just a warning" or anything else.
