Looking to get my CDL- how would you do it?

Interesting, a lot of the Melton trucks I've unloaded were not tarped.

The only TMC trucks I've unloaded have been treated lumber and they were never tarped.

 

I'm gonna call around to that private school as well as to community college and find out whatever I can about their CDL programs this week.

 

I unloaded a truck from Melton this morning and got to talk with the driver after I got the paperwork. He had good things to say about them. He said he's been driving for 10 months with Melton and was hired with no experience. He's done 90,000 miles in that time. He said he stays out for 3-4 months at a time, but that is by choice, he could be home much more often if he wanted to. He told me he trained with his local community college and was glad he did it that way rather than a company school. Melton reimbursed him for his schooling. He told me that tarping is not required on every load, it is up to the customer. They pay extra for tarping, hazmat and oversize, as well as having your passport and TWIC. The trucks are all newer and all automatics, he was driving a 2021 Kenworth with 100k miles on it. Personally I'd like to drive a stick, at least for a while just so I can learn and be able to do it should I ever need to.

I was glad to be able to talk with him and Melton definitely sounds like an option worth exploring.
