Fuel costs

All I know is buying new was best move I made for myself. But everyone’s situation/preference is their own. I’ve gained 2-3 mpg over my pre emissions trucks. That’s a huge number. If you’re gonna own old school, you better know how to wrench on it cuz taking it to a shop will kill you. My fuel consumption is down. My maintenance costs are down. Which in turn, what stays in my jeans is up. Even with the big monthly payment. It took me a long time to wrap my head around this idea…..but once I did I realized I should’ve done it a long time ago.

 

I agree 100%, I did not buy any extended warranty, I will in the future if/when I buy another. Amazing all the little things that happen just out of warranty. Bought a 2019.

 

How long do you plan on keeping it? A friend went new after having old trucks for years. His old truck was efficient and he had a good shop that wasnt bankrupting him. He ran his new w900 for 4 years with minimal expenses and is getting a new 990 any day now. If he gets 100 clear for the 4 year old truck it should work out ok. The w9 was 200. The new one isn't any cheaper that's for sure. All the guys l know with new trucks are trading them as soon as warranty is close to being up because their afraid of after warranty repair bills.

 

4 yrs, 800km and trade it in. Only way to do it with new trucks.

 

I used to do that but I found it works better for me to keep them longer.I kept my 96 for 7 years and my current truck I've had for over 19 years.With the new stuff they are building now I don't think I'd want anything to do with them.

 

Ya it seems like that's the plan. One thing that changes every ones math here is that some guys don't run 200000km a year. Ttyl8r

 

Ive seen my linehaul company truck fuel consumption go from 350 liters to 280 liters,,same run the past 25years so ya,,only good thing about new trucks is fuel consumption,,,the rest of the new technology is just a PIA
Last new truck company assigned me spent 30% of its time in shop. Auto transmission,,every ####ing time it was the transmission or the emissions.
Parked it last winter, told them different truck,,anything but a Mack so got Coronoda Cummins with 18 sp….no issues. I was familiar with the truck and knew it had few issues ever. Fuel consumption same as the Auto.

 

That's awesome because that pretty much near covers the truck payment alone.

Maintenance costs are down because it's new. Turn it before the warranty runs out and you may make out ok but put a 5year old 800k emission truck against a 10 year old pre emission truck or glider and you will see the difference.
My 60series is well under 1k for a turbo, ANY emission truck is $3500+ . I can rebuild my complete exhaust system from turbo to tip for $1000.
Your one box is 10k. I have a friend who needs one now.
New trucks are disposable., cycle them every 3to4 years ALWAYS have a huge payment. Or, maintain a good pre emission truck.
My columbia glider averages 7-9 mpg US gallon, and is the cheapest truck on the road to fix and maintain. Its paid for, which is huge to me. I look occasionally at newer stuff, but I just have to call a few friends with the new stuff and talk maintenance and breakdowns, cures that.
