really hating this truck. It was sooo abused by previous driver. Need to change a fuse for CB and the screws in the cover are completely smooshed so I can't turn them. Plus it is still losing a ton of air and despite new batteries is a very reluctant starter. Also, idle shutdown in mid 30's. They promised me a new one as soon as one is ready. I hope it is right away ready.

I was debating on going to SAV. What changed my mind was that they don't have APU's and have that opti-idle. That was a no go for me.
I like their green trucks though. Green is a rare truck color, for whatever reason.
Looking forward to this thread. There's another poster on this forum who has a thread on them but he doesn't post much. So I'm curious as to how SAV plays out for you.
I hope you get your new truck soon and I hope the truck that you are in was at least cleaned and with a brand new mattress before you got in it.Rocks, Speed_Drums, Lonesome and 1 other person Thank this. -

What's the difference between the eletric a/c heater thing and an opti idle unit? I'm assuming both draw their power from the engine so the truck is starting and stopping all night on nights when you need the heat all night (which is already here in the Minnesota area), right? -

this guy hit the ramp to I-80 in davenport too fast.
It doesn't look good for the driver.

The electric is a 1000 times better in my opinion.
5 years straight, not one problem with the electric.
You can run anything with it.
Only thing I run the truck for is the microwave.
Because it uses so much power and it's only for a few minutes.
There's another whole set of batteries under the truck
For the electric apu.
Set the brakes, turn it on, set the temperature you
Want and relax.
It'll start on its own when the batteries need to be recharged.
Most of the time it never starts.
Only in extremely high or low temperatures will it
Have to recharge the batteries.
That's because your either running the heat or ac
continuously with the fan on high speed.
I've went 2 days in normal temperatures before
It had to recharge the batteries.
So long I thought it wasn't working right.
Oh yea,it's batteries.
That means it makes no noise.
Completely quite in the cab.
It's the first thing I'm asking about
If I have to change jobs. -
I've never had an electric APU before, only diesal. The diesal ones seem to work alright though, at least the ThermoKing Tripac Evolutions (that's all I've had). Minimal maintenance on the diesal APU's as well. Pretty much just do the PM's at reguarly scheduled times, run the heater once per month for a few hours (important during the summer time) and you're pretty much good to go.
So if it's an electric APU then she should be good to run electronics/fridges on it then. And it won't shake the truck 1000 times per night like the opti-idles do. -
I'm in a truck that has 215k on it and I just got it (just started with a new company). My previous company I got a brand new truck with less than 500 miles on it when I first got it. There is nothing sweeter than getting a brand new truck and knowing that you're the only one who has lived in it and how good the maintence will/has been on it.
When I turned in that brand new truck from my first OTR company it had about 135k on it. The day I turned it in it looked BRAND NEW still on the inside. I kept that thing clean and treated it as my own (I don't smoke cigarettes and I don't have pets so when I say it was clean at 135k, it was clean). I was really grateful for it.Rocks, austinmike, Speed_Drums and 2 others Thank this. -
