The only "new" engine I'm even semi interested in is dd15/16. The cummins, paccar and Detroit all run the exact same aftertreatment system. Which is the cummins. I don't know much about the paccar engine.
Did you do a rig dig on your dad's truck?

Detroit runs the one box. Cummins made the after treatment for their engines, paccar, and international. There's alot that are against the paccar. But I like the ones I've ran and we've had good luck with this one engine wise. After treatment seems to be the biggest complaint which seems to be the norm for everyone. Paccars like routine maintenance, more than most.Last edited: Nov 20, 2021

The other deterrent from wrenching full time anymore is some of the crap that shouldn't be, or can't be fixed.singlescrewshaker, DeereRunner97, BigBob410 and 10 others Thank this. -
The last shop I worked in, the owner had this really weird obsession with never having empty space in the shop. Said he liked potential customers who came in to see a lot of vehicles inside because it showed how "in demand' the shop was.
Never mind the fact it made the space an absolute cluster-fneb to work in to the point that it created obstacles to getting work done in an efficient fashion. Also didn't have the manpower to actually work on that many vehicles. It was maddening.
A customer brought in a car that need worked on, was an odd ball roadster thing based off a Model T. He'd waited two weeks for a "slot" to come open, and as the car is being offloaded form the trailer the shop owner was telling him that work would start that afternoon. Car sat for close to three weeks before anyone touched it. I said something a couple times during that period regarding what had been said to the customer and got told to shut up.
What finally got work started was the guy calling up and saying he was going to be showing up in person to inspect the "progress" that he'd been told had been made. Two guys got put on it and mashed on it to get some stuff done, including one of them doing a spectacular job of screwing up the brasswork on the radiator with a wire brush. When the customer showed up and figured out he'd been lied to he lost his mind, and things really went down hill when he saw what had happened to the radiator.
That was one of several final straws that led to me quitting with my middle finger raised high. Place was an asylum I couldn't keep working at.singlescrewshaker, DeereRunner97, BigBob410 and 14 others Thank this. -

Suddenly, I had chicken that tasted like the rotisserie stuff. Slight crunch on the outside, juicy on the inside. Wow, that’s easily the best I’ve ever made for myself.singlescrewshaker, DeereRunner97, BigBob410 and 17 others Thank this. -
