Hello - dropping in to say "hi" and get a feel for the life of a trucker and to ask questions. I ran my own flooring business for 30 years and things have pretty much dried up for me.
So I'm looking for a career change. Almost went to trucking school back in the '70s - North American Van Lines. Love running the open road. Driven across the country and AK several times. Course that's on vacation! We'll see what the daily grind will be like!!!!
I'm mechanically inclined (Assoc. Mechanical Design) and a bit of a gear head. Kids are on their own, so it's just me and the wife and pets.
I'm tentatively headed for AIT in Vegas with a pre-hire with Werner.
I'm pretty skeptical these days, on a lot of things. So I'll be asking questions in the appropriate threads.
First one.... am I nuts or what?!?!?
Very informative board from the threads I have read. Looking forward to reading some more. Enjoy the new year everyone!
Greetings All

Welcome to the board, and trucking...you might find this is also a great place for your wife to visit, there are quite a few driver wives/s/o here to help her deal with the changes and offer advice.
Enjoy the board and please keep us posted on your progress.Baack, kickin chicken and Diesel_Smurf Thank this. -
No , you're not nuts . The ones that are nuts are the ones that don't come here until after they go to a CDL mill . Read here a while before making a 100% commitment .
Spend some time reading the expediter forums . Expediting is a much better life style and you more time to actually see the country . The expedite carriers also do not require training at the school and your past experience will be looked at favorably .kickin chicken, Diesel_Smurf and Baack Thank this. -
Thanks for the welcome and the tips everybody.

Hi RickRoll!! Welcome to the Forum
RickG is right, you are not nuts, you did the best thing you could have. Look at the waters and see what they look like before you go throwing your dinghy in there
And I would Love to chat with your wife. My husband has been a trucker now 11 years. There are many things she needs to know especially if she goes out there with you sometimes. And we can be a great source of support for the times you are away from home and she is lonely, or needs to talk to someone who knows what shes going through. And you as well, You found the right place.

Thanks chicken & smurf. Gonna' have to put the schooling on hold. Heading back east, where I'm from and regroup. It's a challenging decision with all the issues involved. I'll keep you all posted. Perhaps in a new thread, eh?
