Seeing as you have 2 years listed in this industry you should know the state of trucking. And if you want to drive a certain truck from a certain manufacturer set up a certain way I am sure there is a dealer near you that can sell you just what you want. But to be that picky in today's job market, especially in Michigan, and with only 2 years experience, is absolutely ridiculous. If you are a professional as you say, you will find a good company that pays what you need to make and not be so picky about how posh the equipment is. Maybe you might even pay your due's like those of us that have been doing this for years.
Another newb who expects the world (2 years does not make you experienced).![]()

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Van Eerden is supposed to be good. I see from your profile you're w/ Gordon Trucking Inc. Are they a good co.? Their website seems to indicate that but I was wondering if that's actually the case. If you're in Hudsonville there are quite a few trucking co.'s in that area. ALTL, for instance.

Are there any companies based out of, or will get you home weekly in Michigan?
I've been driving for nearly three years now, and I don't know, but it seems like there are hardly any companies that are hiring out of the mid/southeast michigan area? any help? -
Have you tried Schneider? There are a lot of us from MI. What part are you from?
-
What are you looking for? Flatbed, van, etc.? I know of Magic Transportation out of Grand Rapids is hiring with experience, but they are a flatbed company. You can try ALTL, and Foreway. I believe they are hiring just need experience.
-
I've been told from other GoTo drivers that usually they are hiring, that could or could not be a bad thing. They're in Saginaw. You have Stone Transport there as well. There are quite a few companies in Mi. If you were to do a search for, truck driving jobs in Michigan, you'd come up with a lot of places. Then just call any you're interested in, maybe even some that may be so-so to you.
Now the two co's I mentioned require prior experience. Please give a bit more info, and maybe someone can help you a bit more.

I am from flint, I currently have 2.6 years experience, I went to school through c.r. England, I like every other new driver got suckered into their lease program (I did make really good money there, but they required 5 weeks on the road for 48 hours home)
I have 0 citations and 0 preventable accident, and 0 late loads.
I left c.r. England and have been driving for j.b. hunt for the last 1.8 or so years. I have been pretty happy here for the most part, but I've spent the last two weeks sitting and not doing anything, I'm starting go get pretty unhappy here.
I am looking for any job that will get me home every two weeks or earlier, and pay decent (700+ a week)
I will drive and work as hard as I have to, and do any type of trucking out there.
any ideas? -
Alright! I suggest calling Schneider. They have what's called the Home Run program, out 2 weeks, in 1. Just a couple weeks ago they were looking for anyone who would like to get on this program in Michigan. I'm on it, and I like it. GoTo, from what I understand, get you home most weekends, the same with Stone.
Did you try that search I suggested earlier?
-
i did, i am going to make some calls tomorrow, what is the pay with the homerun program like?
-
Since you're driving less than most others, you'll be making less, about 25% less or so, I think I was quoted. You can look at Schneiders website. I think they quote a figure there.
One thing to remember, there's a tradeoff for most anything that favours a driver wherever you may go. The program works well for me, maybe yourself as well.
Just give a call to anyone that interests you, and let them know your requirements, and see if you can find a balance of sorts.
Oh yeah, just remembered, I was talking with an AD Transport driver the other day down in Terre Haute. I was interested in them at one time, and even got a Christmas card from them this year. Anyway, he told me they hired off and on. They're located in Canton Mi. just west of I275.
Good luck.
