the old international under the drawworks was a automatic international, we had more problems with that rig than any of the other 5 combined, always in the shop, lots of electrical problems. it had no power, i've had to climb hills in reverse to get to location, i'd never get a auto.

learning how to drive the 10 speed i learned in a hurry you can't go fast with it like a 6 speed. i've learned how to drive on my own, trial and error, i've had to go on down roads that some people would be afraid to take their pickup down and i was in a 32,000# rig.

Personally, I take off in 2nd gear. I was taught to use this. I push the clutch no more than 2in when double clutching.

2nd? Ive been taught to take off in LO or in 1st. Not 2nd. When you can take off in 1st is when your empty or bobtail. But what do i know.

    The "add the digits" rule works up to 55 mph...15mph=6, 25mph=7, 35 mph=8, 45mph=9, 55 mph =10....simple just add the digits...up to 55, as I showed..15/25/35/45/55...not the oddball speeds use the "5's".

Good post Otherhalf! I was sitting here reading this thread and saying to myself, "self," (I said,) "it would be easy to SHOW the OP how to do the shifting thing, but how the hell do you communicate it in words."

Then you came along with your post, and did just that!:yes2557:

    otherhalftw Thanks this.

Seems hard when you explain it even harder when your sitting in the truck trying to find first or LO. I couldn't find it one day when i was going to move it. Got out asked dad all nervous hey i can't find lo he told me let out the clutch just a bit and you'll find it. Seems hard when you see someone and you keep thinking to yourself how will i be able to do that.

Heck before ya know it. you will be able to grab six or seven gears in the Hooks parking lot with no problem at all.
