Got towed last night in Miami. Only went about 12 miles but the guy did not drop axle or disconnect drive shaft. Was reading that doing that would mess up transmission? Is this correct? I have only been towed one other time and I was not with the truck so don’t know how guy did it.
first tow had to go to their yard for the night. Now I am going to the dealer but he is having all sorts of problems trying to get it ready. I think this is his first big truck tow.
any knowledge would be great. I want to talk to the dealer when I get there so they know.

Forgot to mention it was towed with my dryvan attached. Last time I got towed it was bobtail and they picked it up from the rear.

Just had my truck towed bobtail. They hooked up from back. So they lift the drive axles off the ground. They did that to so they would not have to remove the drive shaft.
Speed_Drums and Siinman Thank this. -

I don't know the specifics of the IShift but you can definitely do damage to Eatons towing them at speed for a distance.

Well the truck is at the shop and most likely won’t know till Monday or Tuesday. They pulled the truck and trailer about 5 miles and was doing 10-20 miles an hour. I sure hope it didn’t f things up but will find out. Ok

The pump on truck transmissions works off the input shaft. Towing them without dropping the driveshaft or pulling an axle means the output shaft is turning without lubrication. I got put OOS at the sb I65 scale near Crown Point. Because it was cold, we towed it to the shop next to the Flying J at exit 240. Instead of dropping the shaft, the driver had me run the engine for the 5 mile tow.
Oxbow, TallJoe, Speed_Drums and 4 others Thank this.
