I haven't been around here posting for a long time, but this topic makes me passionate. And I know some will disagree, vehemently, with my position. I just want to say I respect THEIR position, and I hope they would respect mine.
I think the sentence is fair and sets a high bar for good, safe behavior. This guy...this Rogel Aguilera-Mederos...I was FURIOUS with him after the accident and all through the legal proceedings. So when I read about the sentence he received I thought THANK GOD! Thank God justice was done.
Ask the families of the people who burned up in that big pile up that HE CAUSED by his homicidally negligent behavior if THEY think the sentence was fair.

I agree, this fellow did not get the sentence he deserved. There is no way on this earth to give him what he deserved.
The way to calculate the correct sentence should be the number of actuarial years his victims could have lived, had he not killed them...plus the years of life expentency which the injuries to the other victims reduced. Add that all up and you get the sentence...which he should actually serve, but instead (given the limits of human lifespan, currently) he would die before serving that just sentence.

Idk if it’s fair or not, but I do know one thing. It makes me wonder why I’m in a profession where I could be held to such repercussions for a mistake. It’s common knowledge that people don’t think straight when they panic, as I’m sure this young man did.
Whether right or wrong I am again trying to program my mind to take the ditch or any other option if at all possible. I can only hope that in the heat of an accident I don’t panic and make the wrong decision.
