I have 12.7 60 series with 1.5 mil + that runs decent and has good torque but recently taken on a rank odor like fresh asphalt. It is really pouring exhaust out of tube. It has been using about a gallon of oil every couple thousand miles (weekly). It does have some small leaks, nothing new, but not terrible.
Question; anything I can do to extend its life without major? It did have a new head put on @ 555,000 due to screw on jake coming loose but has been a great runner.

Sounds like its worn out. If its never had any major work besides the head you got your money's worth out of it.

Have you had the bullgear serviced?
Have you put bearings in?
Otherwise keep adding oil until you can't take it anymore...The_Great_Corn, jamespmack, shooter19802003 and 4 others Thank this. -
Throw a gallon on WallyWorld (Walmart) Supertech 85/140 gear oil. Seems the engine is worn out. The gear oil should stretch it out, I’ve even read that some have use 2 gallons of gear oil. Use either, 85/90 or 85/140, you have nothing to loose.

better do like them cat boys. run that blow by hose 2" off the ground. this will keep the oil from blowing all over your truck. also get the bull gear job with the inframe job
