I think the original question was, Is it worth it to rebuild? The oil cooling nozzles were added due to a problem with the old style bolt on wrist pins coming apart. Usually at 750k. About half the time they’d knock a hole in the side of the block. I knew one Mechanic O/O back then who had 2 go bad within a week of each other. Him and his son in law ran California together. One broke the block, one didn’t. Both were right near 750k. A text book example. First I’d heard of it. So if you don’t have a block that has or can add nozzles to, maybe you can buy new rods that are drilled and still upgrade to a floating wrist pin piston. I don’t know for sure myself. If you have it rebuilt at a certified Shop, they’ll upgrade to a low Nox program. That will cause excessive white smoking when cold, if you stay with the 15:1 pistons. The 16.5:1 piston kit solves that problem. They’ll also only want to rebuild with original parts. You want to pick your own and build it for yourself. There’s options.

Your knowledge of the engine is impressive, I am really leaning on getting a different truck, I don't think mechanics in my neck of the woods would do me right. What do you suggest when looking for a replacement?

Idk. I still running a 2000. Doubt there is a bolt I haven't turned on it. I can not imagine the money I have spent in total.
At that point, what do you want? What do you need?

Sell it and get the W9 if that’s what you really want.

I’ve been running one gallon at every oil change. No foam, engine not burned up. Rawze has a a lot of info on it. He put over 800,000 miles running gear oil on Cummins. Gear oil is half the price of Lucas and gear oil puts back some of the additives that they have stripped on the newer oil to meet emissions.

Thought I read somewhere that Lucas is nothing more than 50w oil. And people pay $25 for a gallon of it.
