I'm getting pushback, this is why I avoid this topic these days. YES, the FMCSA does require per 391.23 for a carrier to get a driver's DMV records. These records in some cases will have fender bender type accidents in them. Then the carrier is required to do this again a year later and every year past that. However, these are not the accidents as defined by the FMCSA in 390.5.

Oh, trust me, I have had my share of "debates" with safety critters. I remember telling one many years ago to go (redacted) themself. I got into it once because I had a tattletale QC that told safety if I had a hard brake. From that day until the day I retired I refused to drive another truck with that POS in it. I was one that never had a fear of safety. In fact, I remember being stopped by the head dispatcher because he saw my face as I passed and he knew I was headed toward safety with blood in my eyes. The director of safety came out a few minutes later and actually said he was sorry about the mix-up. About 2 hours later I had rented a car, my truck was cleaned out and inspected and I started driving toward Atlanta and my next job. Last thing I told that director of safety ---- (well what I said can't be said in here)!

I had a lot in my first year also. My driving improved when I stopped trying to rush everything. Instead of guessing whether I was clear of an object, I made sure. It took more time but my record has improved. Have the big picture in mind and don't sweat spending an extra few minutes here and there to avoid mistakes that could haunt you for years.

I’m surprised they haven’t canned you you should switch to OTR and stay for at least 18 months.
