Yeah. What's even crazier is hiring someone that has only done OTR & put them in an ag or construction setting! Set in the pass seat many times when an OTR guy has come to work for us, several go straight back to the shop before 10AM. Not throwing off on anyone just what I've observed.

and some are fine no matter where you put them
funniest one was a big city boy who was just fine with gunshots in the getto but terrified of corn fields got stuck one night and had to walk out to call , never seen a more rattled guy in my life -
Haha, Guess he saw Children of the corn too many times
. Funniest one we had was a guy straight out of the army. Said he could run or drive anything, put him on the dozer first day just knocking down fill from trucks & he couldn't keep up with three trucks an hr. But the best came the next day, was gonna put him in a truck & his first words when he opend the door was "OHH it's a stick" how the heck do you get a CDL & not drive at least a manual let alone an un synched trans. He did all right for a bit till he forgot to push the clutch in to stop in the dirt hole. Was funny as crap to watch he just kept pushing harder on the brake & raising up in the seat till it died. Needless to say he ended up being a laborer & still couldn't do that right!

It is very different! No stops to eat, you'll miss a paid load. if you forget to grab something early in the morning before you start your day and evening you get pretty hungry lol. I have my ice chest seatbelted in during the grain season and am totally over hypervigilent hauling cotton modules. No close turns or you wipe the vehicles next to you off the road and you stay overloaded on your front axles, high profile so you can't take some turns as fast or over you go.
To sum it up the day starts out as fast, shift, turn, downshift, turn, shift go go go go go lol. The only difference I can ever see in grain vs cotton is you get a chance to "breathe" waiting to get loaded in grain. No HOS applies, you put in your hours and keep goin till the season ends. Takes a couple of weeks to wind down and not feel wiped out every year.
Just from what I've seen also: only one OTR driver out of 5 stayed on and made a great driver. I honestly dont know how I'll do OTR, I love the adrenalin in the agriculture and am worried I may get bored, worried I'll get out of shape cuz there's no way to get out of shape with that much turning, shifting, scaling etc.....................guess I may be finding out.......................... -

In the meantime back at the ranch....er, city now (Denver)......I've been watching this weather all over. What a Winter! It's the first time we've ever had to shut down 3 times due to high winds in the TX panhandle! There's snow and ice just about every direction you look, it's just dang colder than usual everywhere
I've been steamcleaning the house, trying not to go stir crazy and just waiting out some of this weather before going in to meet with some companys you guys suggested along with a couple more and/or hit the send button on applications......
I'm a workaholic and figure there are just about 3 more weeks I can hang out finanially without #1: going nuts or #1 getting in money trouble....is it just me or is this the coldest, windiest, Winter we've all seen in years!!???? -
pretty much and I am always finding my self in ND,etc going to sunburst MT now -24 yahoo
