It may be, thick and gluey, that's why I mix it with MMO.

I pay 40+ bux a gallon for a synthetic gallon though.

$25 ?, it’s more like $35 here in the west coast.

The last time I looked at it was years ago, figured it has went up with everything else.

It’s a little thicker than 50 weight. It’s about 200 weight and has zero additives. A GL4 140 weight gear oil is a better option if you need a little psi in a bottle.

    Good Lord's Day!
Well I am now considering a replacement motor for my 1998 Intl 9200 that has this worn out 12.7l.
Thinking I can switch motors in my shop fairly quick and then have time to get the 12.7l rebuilt or just sell it since it still has good bones. I am still running at 50# pressure just has leaks and lots of blowby- crazy still runs good.
Question is though I am looking at 14l 60 series for more power. Can I replace with the 14 liter without changing much and what kind of job is it to do a motor swap?

    Thanks ` Dave

Did you try the GL4 or Gl5 gear oil just to stretch it out ? If it so worn out and on it’s way out, you have absolutely nothing to lose. Rawze’s website says you can add up to 2 gallons. This is for a Cummins, but like I said, your engine is on its way out and you absolutely nothing to lose. You can get that gear oil at Walmart for about $15.00 each. Keep us up to date.

I think it will be much easier to keep what you have, and rebuild it. I’m pretty sure you can find a kit, head, injectors, and bull gear. Costs around $6k. Add labor, about another $6k is fair. With the cost of equipment right now. Either sell as is, buy another, or keep the low buck money maker you already have. Time wise, Labor, trying to find a 14L, and wire it up to work is too much effort, time and money. Not worth it.

I honestly wouldn’t pull a 12.7 to put a 14 in its place. 12.7 can make very good dependable power and you don’t have to change anything else. I don’t think there would be much other than some wiring otherwise if you decide to change it. If you do I think a 2003 is the best 14L to get. They didn’t have any of the egr garbage and had a great reputation.

Ok, thanks I was specifically looking for pre egr, but you are probably right on the 12.7. It has been a great motor, but earlier in the thread I was told about the improved piston cooling system that was after my 12.7. Can I include that in my rebuild?
