It’s no joke what we got going on down here. This is normal stuff. News sources only capture a few of the instances. The driver will have nothing done to him unless he is a US citizen and you don’t have to be a citizen to have a CDL anymore. If he is not a citizen he and the others will be put on a plane in San Antonio at Lackland in the middle of the night and flown up north to a city and dropped off in a neighborhood somewhere near you.

 

Most likely he was not citizen that is why they let him through the checkpoint. To trail him and stop him a few miles from it for a better show. They seize tons of US citizen Equipment and CDLs at that checkpoint every week. There is a tow company down in Laredo that has a truck dedicated just for that.

makes sense to detain away from the checkpoint so they don't spook the others trying to smuggle.

 

I’ve heard from an ex co workers brother who was Border Patrol and retired that they would also do it in an open place or on a highway like that were it is busy so they get more public exposure. In hopes it would get folks who are thinking about doing it second thoughts and also make it look like law enforcement is working hard to stop it in other places then just the checkpoints. You know the whole the “eyes of Texas are upon you.” They do it more when the negative public comments come out that not enough is being done. But unfortunately who is in charge in the big house during those times determines how tight their hands are tied.
