The stinger trucks like that one are really just special builds for camper and cargo trailer hauling. A regular car hauling rig like a Sun County will move 3 duallys or Sprinters I'm pretty sure. The 1 unit trailer is a cool idea. Gives you the versatility a big trailer setup wouldn't which I'd say you definitely want in those parts.

One thing to think about is where the pivot point is on your truck. My truck is very similar to yours. Backing up with a trailer is tricky sometimes because of the pivot point location. Makes me look like a novice on more occasions than I would like to admit.I can't imagine it in N.Y.C.. I do very well hauling two campers out and two cars back . And only having the hassle of a trailer hooked up 50% of the time.

I dont haul rvs, just cars.
Back up enough times with those short trailers and you will eventually become a pro.
I remember just starting out, I'd get so embarrassed with my 53 I'd move to a different truck stop. After a few months I'd back it up easy into any spot.

See me being in FL, NC & SC are like the place I look to go so I can find a decent load. Once or twice I've had to deadhead out of FL to SC just to get something because FL sucks that much. Lately though seems like all the loads out of FL that pay anything are going west. I used to be able to at least get 2x $500 cars/trucks up to NC/SC so I'd have at least $1k on the deck but now they are trying to pay $400 and then they will be all the way over in Tampa or something so I don't bother I've just been going west.

The problem is they go to say AL or TX or MS or places like that so you get there and now you're in another area with crappy paying loads...

Speaking of snow, I just had a little bit in Memphis today but wasn't too bad.

2 options I am waiting on some more info, build times and a quote.
Buckeye Trailer & Fab and Sundowner have a nice aluminum deckover they can custom build for me.

My truck is 41 feet turns out without ball hitch installed. So I am looking at a 23.5 foot total length for the trailer and 19 foot of that is deck/dovetail. Should be able to fit a dually or vans with some overhang.
Anyone here use torflex dexter axles? Electric disc or drum?
Also searching for an aluminum ramp builder that can build me a HD custom size pair. 4.5' x 30" with a hook on both ends to be able to load truck without disconnecting trailer.
I plan on putting 8k axles with 14 ply tires on alloys and a 14k rating. Overkill, I know, but I like having things overbuilt rather than underbuilt.

I wish we had more like minded people in our industry. Nothing is so satisfying as watching a broker have to repost a load you know they’re scalping you on. I almost had a deal on a hazmat load with TQL, but we were $500 apart. They ended up losing the load to another smaller broker and I made an extra $200 on top of the difference. Idiots

    Regarding the torqflex axles

I've "heard" they are fine to use in a single or tandem axle unit. The complaint I've "heard" is, in the heavier triple axle units it's easy to overload an axle or wheel end when traversing uneven ground because the lack of equalizers like the spring suspension has..
The equine world seems to love these axles. Assuming it gives a much nicer ride than leaf spring, & fatigues their animals less over long journeys..?

    Regarding brakes
Electric over hydraulic (EoH) disc all day everyday.! Superior braking power, control, & longevity over electric drums. Never once did my Loadmax with EoH disc try & pass me in a hard brake. Sold it at ~260k miles with the oe dexter pads & rotors still on there..

Downside to EoH is initial cost, & if you wipe out a brake hose they all die because lack of fluid..
May have been a fluke, but I had an inside dual tire blow apart on me & the tread did exactly that. Smacked a brake hose & cracked the thin metal 90° fitting that goes into the brake caliper.. No brakes!!

With straight electric wiping out a wire to one brake magnet shouldn't effect the remaining brakes..

I'd spec EoH disc again without a 2nd thought..

Still waiting on a quote for my build. My guy can't source pooched decking and can't get his hands on 7-8k torflex EoH disc axles. I really hope he can plan and build it before the end of march like he said.

This is why I am getting a trailer. I already booked 2 out of the 3 but that would have been a very light $4000 load for a 1000 mile trip. Can literally drive back empty and still gross $2 a mile round trip.

The problem is getting back out at a decent rate. Sometimes it's not bad other times it's like a black hole.

Very true. I try to search what is coming out of the drop area before I book my outbound trip and I try to earn as much as I can going out to balance out bad rates coming back.
What I found out is sometimes its worth deadheading half way back to pick up a load. For example I dropped in SC and loads back towards NY were paying $500 and loads from VA halfway home going to NY also paid $500ish so I drove empty to VA and picked up a couple cars from there instead. I saved some fuel, wear and tear on my truck by driving empty half way for the same rate as I would have gotten if I had picked up low rates in SC.
