Definitely not true in Indiana about requiring signs posted. Ignorance of the law doesn't help you. A truck can now even be given an impeding traffic violation automatically on top of the third lane violation, regardless of whether you were impeding or not.

I've never found this in writing but had a trooper tell me that the law even states you can only use the middle lane to pass and not for travel. If it is four lanes or more you can use the second lane to travel. Never heard of anyone being hit for that, and I honestly don't know of it's even true. Ignorance of the law is usually ok when you're on that side of the conversation.

I 75 North Florida mile marker 191 is a sign that says no trucks in the left lane next 71 miles.
Then every so many miles are signs that say “no trucks in the left lane”
71 miles later is a sign that says “end of no trucks in left lane”
I just came through there this afternoon.
I have also seen these signs in other states.

In my experience the general rule of thumb is to stay out of the far left lane on a three lane highway regardless of signage. Trucks don't belong there anyhow.

I just checked the Georgia CDL Manual, and I am surprised to find that there is nothing in there saying that it is illegal for a semi-truck to drive in the third lane! The closest thing to a third lane rule in the Georgia CDL manual is that it says that semi-trucks must stay in the right lane if they are not passing anyone else. But there is nothing in the Georgia CDL Manual that says that semi-trucks cannot drive in the third lane.

But....there are plenty of signs posted. ALWAYS read the signs.....every sign. My CDL Instructors had us read every sign out loud during training. It was stressed how important it is to read signs. It set me up for good habits. Also, one instructor in particular, would constantly say....."Drive the Trailer, not the tractor" or "Watch your Wagon" Those little things have stuck with me.

I was on many freeways and highways on Thursday in California hunting for signage limiting us to the 1st and 2nd lanes. Not one sign did I see, but all of the big trucks were jammbed over in the 1st and 2nd lanes.

Stay out of the far left lane. That is strictly for 4 wheelers traveling at 96 mph at 0300. Especially on I-15 between Barstow and Ontario. Lol!

I am aware of the laws. But they have signs all over for big truck speed, why not lane restrictions?
