    I'm set for Jan 18th.

What does the road test consist of? I would like to hear more about orientation. Also, do you need to pay for load locks, trailer lock?

orientation is ALOT of videos and going in and out the office signing paperwork over and over and over again. as far as the load locks that is a good question i need to find that out also. In my orientation the physical shocked most of the guys cause we wasnt expecting to have to drop pants, underwear and cough. so be prepared for that. long story short as long as u didn't lie on your application you are good. Oh yeah and the road test was just your normal pretrip and about a 15mile drive.

    The Challenger Thanks this.

Yea I have been studying this site for days and same story on each company, Cutting pay, Lie to sign you on, sign very questionable paperwork in orientation, Big miles up front to hook you and get you to say great things, then the reality. Low miles, new drivers getting better loads....... Home is waiting in a truck stop unpaid for a load. Then when you quit, DAC and they keep your last check and say you owe them money! WTH?

the pre trip is a joke as for load locks they no longer use them they will issue you two straps when you get your truck you can always go back and get more as for miles. I can only tell you what i get as a team and we have been running around 6400. they do seem to have alot of freight. most of the solo drivers i have talked to have been getting around 2600 avg. trailer lock you have to buy. as for hazmat solo do not need they do want teams to have thou. not to much haz mat they haul alot of fedex and they require drivers to have hazmat.

the folks doing driver test are drivers that are cert and that happen to be in the yard. drive test consist of a very easy straight line backing in there yard. drive test is they take out two drivers with the person grading. first driver goes out takes a right then goes to stop sign take a left the get on highway south go down one exsit and go right go down two lights take a right and then pull into a large lot and switch drivers nect driver does two turns and gets back on to highway and goes up one exsit back to yard. only hard part of the driving test is when you leave the yard to take 2nd left it is on a angle and is hard to see out the passenger side. just swing it to get a better angle. pre trip consist of just telling them what you will look for you do not even open the hood.

Linadin is pretty dead on. I used to do the road tests whenever I was near a terminal. Driver trainers give the road tests. In some places they have a person dedicated to that terminal that does the road tests.

But it will all depend on what the person giving the test expects. I was pretty thorough, and you really should learn how to give a proper PTI. Not because its good practive, or anything practical like that. Its because 90% of the drivers at USX dont care, and never give a trailer any type of a look over. Flat tires, missing mud flaps, blown air rides, holes in roofs, missing/burnt out lights, etc.. A PTI saves you money in the long run cause you dont get pulled over, and given tickets.

When I worked for them, I was pretty much on a first name basis with everyone in the breakdown dept. And if I didnt call in every day, I would get a message from someone making sure everything was OK.. Thats how many times I called in... NOT hearing from me had someone worried. But in my 7 year stent with them, I never had a accident, or a ticket.

I dont mean to sound like a safety dept advertisement, but with how little most of the drivers at USX dont care, that safety bit falls back on you, and if you get into the habbit from the start, when it matters latter on, you will already be in the groove.

    linadin,

I would like to pm my number if that cool with you. I did do my hazmat and its nice to know about the type of loads. Special thanks for the member who answered my trailer lock question. Any specific type as I have a ton of locks at home? Also, what type of truck do they use for test?
