Yes way. Like any industry, trucking will not stand still. New rules and regulations will be passed. You either adapt or get left behind.
One good example. When the EPA mandated the removal and replacement of metal underground fuel storage tanks for service stations. Lots of small stations didn't or couldn't replace there tanks, they went out of business. Do you think it was wrong for the EPA to mandate the change?
That sticker really doesn't mean squat, I know a few truck inspection places that can just hang a sticker on any truck for the right tip.
As for the older tech trucks, at some point they must be and will be phased out. The trucking industry is moving forward, just like everything else is the world.
I'm not saying your truck is bad, most likely it's not. But you are the very small minority of older trucks.

Why should some new driver be pushed to drive over hours, and then spend time in jail for it. While at the same time, the dispatcher and company that pushed him and threatened his job if he didn't gets nothing. We all know about the Crete driver, he gets time, while the company is going to lose in a civil court case. They have the Qcom messages of the dispatcher pushing and pushing him to keep driving. It's all on the driver with the current system, and we as drivers know the problem is in the office. EOBRs and black boxes will make it much harder to push a driver.
With the new rules, black boxes, and EOBRs you will be treated fairly. When I was growing up, I was taught that if you don't like where you work find a job. Truck drivers as a whole gave up on sticking together, you we all fall one by one.
MarkSheepDog Thanks this. -
The problem with Gov mandated rules is they are "always" knee-jerk reactions. Never well thought out.
If a new law works it's an accident only.
Mark my words and remark on them in 8 months, the housing market is about to dive once again!
Shipping too. Sorry and I want to hang on and just make it one more year folks.
But anything that costs a company will cost the driver.
Does anyone really think any new expense will somehow not be passed to the driver?
If the company has to pay you for more miles, you WILL be paid less per mile.
If the company has to buy new equipment do you think for one second he will risk losing his share of business by passing the cost onto his customers?
The truckers will incur the costs.
My word, does anyone at this political time honestly think the government cares for the driver? Has anyone listened to congress or our *cough cough* president?
And my heart does go out to the O/O who have to put up with all the crap tossed at them.
Until congress or the presidency is changed, we are due for another bad economic slump. And I pray I'm wrong and you all get to say so.
BTW did I just rant lol?SheepDog and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -

Doesn't anyone remember those stupid back bumpers they made truckers put on their trucks? At what cost at the time to the hard working guys and gals? Oh yeah they saved lives! NOT!
Anyone who wishes for mandatory anything is without question asking the government to PLEASE take more of my money!
And for the younger ones here; yes I know I'm wrong, Obama will make us all rich. My feet are up now resting and waiting.
OMG I ranted again! I promise I'll stay off this thread after this. -
Ron, your not ranting, your stating facts that are as plain as the nose on my face. I for one, thought your post was pretty powerful, and clear!

Driving how many years and working for a company that doesn't pay detention pay ?SheepDog Thanks this. -
If it were up to me, drivers would be paid by the hour the whole time they were away from home, UNLESS they were sleeping, eating, or tending to personal business (showers, laundry, etc). But I'm just a dumb trucker, as you keep reminding me! -
i don't drive when tired and my safety record shows that ...never had a log book ticket
i'll decide when i'm tired or hungry
some jack ### from washington that never sat in a truck can't tell me when i can and cant earn my money
