Speeding Motorcycle Slams into Disabled Truck

TORRANCE -- A man was killed when his motorcycle crashed into a disabled semi truck on the 405 Freeway in Torrance and burst into flames, officials said.

Investigators say the truck driver was experiencing mechanical problems and moved to the left carpool lane on the northbound side, near Redondo Beach Boulevard.

The speeding motorcyclist could not stop in time and slammed into the back of the truck, according to a California Highway Patrol sergeant at the scene.

Both drivers were wrong here, I think. The trucker shouldn't have been in the carpool lane, though, not knowing the particulars of his mechanical problems there is a possibility he had no other option. The biker definitely shouldn't have been speeding. I know we've been passed a number of times out in that area by motorcycles going about 100mph weaving in and out of traffic.

i don't know about the trucker being wrong, Ever tried to pull to the right when you have lost power or the brakes are locked up, The 4 Wheelers will let you stop in the center lane before they will let you move over. I think think the driver did what he could to get out of the main traffic lanes.
